- The noon-report problem: most of the global fleet still runs on noon reports, which aren't ideal for building AI models.
- A transfer-learning answer: a large, general physics-based model that has "seen" enough vessel behaviour to build a good model even for a company that hasn't digitalised — recovering much of what high-frequency data would give.
- Automation is "not if, but when": like aviation, shipping will adopt it once the results and benefits are visible.
- Where it starts: combining voyage optimization with automation, so a vessel sails a perfectly optimized voyage in a perfectly optimized way.
